St. Augustine

St. Augustine is an incredibly charming and historic city located south of Jacksonville and filled with Old World allure.  Discovered in 1513 by Ponce de Leon and founded in 1565 by Spanish explorer and admiral Pedro Menendez de Aviles, it is the oldest city in the continental United States.  St. Augustine lies in a region known as “The First Coast”, which extends from Amelia Island to Palm Coast, south of St. Augustine.

St. Augustine is a truly popular place to live, as well as, visit due to its vast history, Spanish Colonial architecture, shopping, amenities and historic homes. The city's historic center is anchored by St. George Street, which is lined with historic homes from various periods and a multitude of quality shops, restaurants and galleries. There’s also year-round, world-class golf: The Sawgrass Marriott Resort in nearby Ponte Vedra Beach hosts the PGA Tour’s Players Championship, while the World Golf Village boasts the only course jointly designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, The King and Bear and The Slammer and The Squire.

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm, incorporated in 1908, is one of the oldest commercial tourist attractions in Florida, as is the Fountain of Youth, which dates from the same time period. The city is one terminus of the Old Spanish Trail, a promotional effort of the 1920s linking St. Augustine to San Diego, California, with 3,000 miles of roadways.
